The most requisite feature of a grain storage system is its ability to store the grain effectively and for extended periods of time. A grain storage system should be able to hold the grains secure for at least 6 months to a year with minimal losses in terms of quality as well as quantity of the grains. Storage bins are widely used in developed countries like the USA where improved storage structures are employed that are effective and efficient for storing grains for multiple years. However, the most important agriculture equipment that is deployed in the storage bins is a grain temperature sensor.

What is a grain temperature sensor?

Monitoring the temperature of the grains throughout the storage bin is necessary to maintain the suitable temperature of the grains as well as the moisture content. Besides, the storage bins are used to prevent the infestation of pests, rodents, insects, molds, etc. Therefore, the grain temperature sensor is used to detect the temperature of the grain that is stored in the bin.

These grain temperature sensors are placed at various spots inside the bin such as on top, bottom, core, and other relevant areas so that the temperature can be tracked from all sides of the bin. Thus, it can be said that a single bin requires multiple grain temperature sensors.

They are connected with the grain temperature alarm system through cables to display the exact temperature of the grains. Depending on the size of the bin, the number of sensors can be adjusted. For instance, a small storage bin would require merely 2–3 sensors placed at the bottom and top to detect the temperature of the grains. Whereas, if large-sized bins are being used, then these sensors would be placed at the top, bottom as well as core. This is because there is usually a variation of temperature at different spots in the bin.

You may notice the fact that during winters, the temperature of the grains from the core will be warmer than the temperature of the grains that are near to the walls of the bin or on top. Alternatively, during summers, the temperature of the grain from the core is cooler than the temperature of the grains that are next to the bin wall.

Any rise in temperature or humidity relates to the risk of developing molds or infestation of insects, rodents, pests, etc. The presence of water droplets on the roof of the bin is a sign of the presence of molds, insects, etc. in the bin.

Which is the best grain temperature sensor?

You can buy the latest grain temperature sensors manufactured by the Farm Shop. Grain Temp Guard Probes Alarm DT and HT are designed to detect the correct temperature of the stored grains. Farm Shop is the manufacturer of various agriculture equipment ranging from germinator to grain temp guard, who manufacture the best in the industry grain temperature probes for the safe storage of the grains.
